Terra Nova Testing

Terra Nova testing will begin Monday, February 27th. In preperation, we have begun practice tests in class. These tests will give students a chance to see the different types of questions that may be asked on the real Terra Novas and will also give us a chance to go over good test taking strategies.

We will be practicing Reading/Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies in class.

Rube Goldberg

Today we went to the Xavier Room to see the Rube Goldberg projects that the eighth grade created. The basis of these projects are inspired by Rube Goldberg, who would take a simple task, such as turning on a light, and make it into a complicated task. I showed the class this music video by the band OK Go where they created their own Rube Goldberg inspired project to film the video in one take. Students asked for me to put up the link. I just had to share our most recent writing assignment because I am so impressed! Students were asked to use their five senses to describe the candy, Pop Rocks. By using descriptive language students wrote what they felt, tasted, smelled, saw, and heard while eating Pop Rocks. Once their paragraphs were completed they got to create a little art project to show what they did as well.
