6K: Pictures and Mass Reminder

Dear 6th grade parents:

I have uploaded photos from the Halloween Parade last Monday; you can locate them by clicking on the 6K Green and 6K Gold link in the left column. When you click on a photo, you will see it full size. The photo above was taken as we lined up for lunch on Friday. Please check out our new book recommendation wall the next time you visit the classroom. It is already a highlight of our classroom for both our 6th and 8th grader readers.

6K Green has been hard at work preparing to lead mass on Tuesday, November 8. Special thanks to Miss Laird for coordinating this preparation during religion class.

Please note that I will not be available during Parent Conferences, as I will be attending the National Council of Teachers of English convention that week. (You are, of course, not required to sign up to see me since I do not teach your children any academic subjects, but often parents like to say hello and check out the classroom.) Please do contact me, however, if you have concerns or suggestions about homeroom procedures or how your child is doing socially.

6K: Online Safety and Mass Dates

Dear 6th Grade Parents:

Thanks again to all of you who attended Middle School Parent Information Night and the HSO Dinner. It was great to meet all of you again, and I hope that I was able to answer any questions that you have about middle school. Please continue to email me with any concerns.

Last Monday, Officer Parisi, our School Resource Officer from the Wilmette Polic Department, visited the 6th graders to talk about internet safety and cyberbullying. This was an informative and, at times, intense presenation. I encourage you to talk to your children about safe online behaviors with all devices, including computers, cell phones, and gaming devices. I spend a lot of time researching online safety in my role as Director of Technology, so please feel free to contact me if you have questions. Officer Parisi will eventually visit the remainder of the middle school and elementary grades.

Please save the following dates for 6K masses:

• 6K Green: November 8.
• 6K Gold: December 13.

6K: Middle School Parent Information Night

I look forward to seeing all of you again (or for the first time) at Middle School Parent Information Night this Wednesday, September 14. The evening will begin with remarks by Principal McKenna in the Xavier Room at 7:00 p.m. This will be followed by a brief visit to homeroom, and longer visits with each teacher in his or her classroom. The evening will end by 9:00 p.m.

6K Update

Dear Sixth Grade Parents:

Congratulations to both parents and students on surviving your first week of middle school! Last week was very busy, and this week is shaping up to be the same. If you do not already subscribe, please be sure to check the Middle School News blog each week for the schedule, which is typically posted on Sunday afternoon.

The next three weeks are actually quite busy, with several important events during flex period. This means that students will have fewer flex periods to organize lockers and ask computer questions. Students who want some extra time in the classroom are welcome to do so as long as they check with me in advance. I am almost always available before and after school, but students do need to let me know in case I have a conflict.

Thank you to those of you who filled out the 6th Grade Parent Information Form. I am, however, still awaiting responses from 22 of you! I will send an e-mail mid-week to those of you who have already signed up to confirm that you did so. While this blog is your main source of home room information, it is is important that I also have a means of communication that is not open to the general public. Since I do not post student names on the blog, for example, information of that sort will be shared via e-mail.

As always, please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. E-mail is by far the fastest and most reliable method of contacting me. Please note the spelling of both my first and last name, as that sometimes leads to confusion. You can always reach middle school teachers using the links in the left column.

Dear 6th Grade Parents:

Welcome to 6th Grade! Some of you are new to middle school this year, while others are veterans starting your final middle school journey. Regardless, it was a pleasure to have your children in class this morning, and I look forward to getting to know them even better this year.

When you have time, be sure to sign up for the other middle school blogs. Unlike our younger students, middle school blogs are set up by teacher, not home room. I know that it seems like a lot to take in now, but we really appreciate the effort on your part to support your students in the classroom.

On a related note, there will be times when it is more appropriate for me to send email to everyone directly. Please fill out the attached Parent Contact Information Form with any and all email addresses that you would like me to use for those messages.

Thanks again for raising such excellent children! I will try to post updates on Monday afternoons this year, but I expect to probably post more often than that as we get this year started. E-mail is by far the best way to reach me.
