Dear Parents,
We are praying for good weather as our end-of-the-year picnic approaches. As you know, our plan is to walk to Gillson Park at 10:00 on June 1 and return to school before 2:00. Please make sure to dress your child appropriately for the weather and apply sunscreen before school that morning. If you have not yet returned your child's permission slip or McDonald's order sheet, please do so as soon as possible. If it is storming on June 1, we will go to "plan B" and picnic at school. Check last week's blog for more details!
We are busily preparing for the end of a most wonderful year! The children are working hard to finish journals, projects, and a variety of unfinished business! They are also practicing for the kindergarten graduation ceremony which promises to be a very special event.
Last week we began learning about clouds and how they are categorized. The children made their own "cloud identifier" frames and we look forward to using them as soon as there are clouds in the sky! We talked about how cloud shapes can remind us of animals or other objects and will use our imaginations to draw pictures using this idea!
We are excitedly anticipating visiting the first grade classrooms next week on "fly up day"! We'll be meeting the teachers, checking out the classrooms and learning all about what it will be like in first grade!
LOOKING FOR SUMMER READING TO SHARE WITH YOUR CHILD? We are starting our third "Junie B. Jones" read aloud chapter book and the kids are loving it! So far we have read Junie B. Jones and the Stupid Smelly Bus, Junie B. Jones is Captain Field Day, and we are currently reading Junie B. Jones Has a Monster Under Her Bed! The series is written by Barbara Park and should be easily found at your local library.
WE ARE CHERISHING THESE LAST DAYS WITH OUR EXTRAORDINARY STUDENTS!
Have a great long weekend!

Dear Parents,
Today is a birthday dress down day for all May, June, and July birthdays! Your child is allowed to wear what they would like to school today, in honor of their birthday. We will be celebrating with the whole school! As a class, we will be eating a delicious birthday treat provided by some of our parents.
We continue to make progress with learning our lines and songs for Kindergarten Graduation, which will be held in the Xavier Room at 9:30am on Wednesday, June 6th. The students should come to school as they normally would between 8-8:15am. However, this is also an out-of-uniform day for the students. They are allowed to dress-up in their best graduation attire!
When the graduation ceremony is over, your child will be allowed to leave with you, as June 6th will be their last morning of kindergarten. We will be sad to see them leave us. If you have any questions, please let us know.
The kindergartners have been very busy writing in their journals during writing time. It has been a great experience to see how their writing has progressed since the beginning of the school year. We started a new "Writing Workshop" time, where the students are able to write about anything that interests them! So far, they have done a great job. The students also have the option of sharing what they have written with they whole class.
In math, we continue to work on our 3D shape books. Our final 3D shape will be the pyramid. If you could please send a pyramid to school with your child from home, that would be great! We also continue to work on our calendar binders daily to review important concepts such as the date, month, year, weather, recording the temperature on a thermometer, graphing skills, counting with coins and dollars, and recording the days of school.
Have a great weekend!

Dear Parents,
BUTTERFLY BIRTH ANNOUNCEMENT:
It was so exciting to walk in one morning and find that our butterflies had hatched and five beautiful butterflies were flying around! We had fun naming them! The children wrote down a name and we picked from a bag. Our butterflies names are: "DJ", "Lainey", "Ellie", "Chippy", and "Sparkels"! We will be setting them free Friday at 2:30 in front of the church right before pickup. Parents are invited to join us at that time, schedules allowing.
We are busily planning all of our end-of-the-year activities!!!!! On May 30, kindergartners will experience "fly up day". We will tour the first grade classrooms, meet the teachers, and learn about first grade in preparation for next year!
Our class picnic will be at Gillson Park on June 1. We thought it would be fun to have McDonald's for lunch that day as a special treat. Please watch the blog for details and ordering information. Also, please watch for your child's permission slip. Sign and return it as soon as possible as students cannot attend without it.
Kindergarten Graduation is right around the corner! We have already started practicing our wonderful songs! The students will be given lines to practice for the ceremony so please look for your child's line in their Thursday folders. Practicing at home has been a huge help! Thank you!!
We have also been enjoying many fun Spring activities! We hope you enjoyed the beautiful wind socks your children brought home on Friday! This week our religion topic was "Air is Good". We have been discovering how air is all around us, and how important the air is to our earth.
We have been busy finishing up our butterfly unit with many fun activities! We watched "The Very Hungry Catepillar", made butterfly story books, read many butterfly books that taught us fun facts, and made beautiful art projects of the butterflu life cycle to conclude our unit! The students have enjoyed seeing every step of our own butterflies' life cycle along the way!
We have also been working a lot with handling money in our class. The students have been able to "buy" objects using correct coins.
We have one more shape in our 3D shape book. We have enjoyed all the 3D objects discussed and presented in class thus far! For next week, please have your son or daughter look for a pyramid shape around the house. Remember if your child finds a pyramid that is too big to bring to school they can always take a picture or draw a picture to share!
Throughout the year, our study of the spanish language has been a very enjoyable part of the kindergarten week! The students have been learning so much from Senorita!
Our moms should be getting excited for Mother's Day because we have been working hard on our special Mother's Day project. Your children have been very thoughtful with this adorable project! We hope you enjoy it and have a wonderful Mother's Day! : )

Dear parents,
This week has been an exciting week to watch our butterflies transform from caterpillars to chrysalises! We used an application called "time lapse" to film it. We hope you've had a chance to view these videos posted yesterday! We are making booklets about the butterfly cycle and the children have learned a little chant to remember the sequence: Egg, caterpillar, pupa, adult. Ask your child to demonstrate!
Our 3D shape of the week is the rectangular prism. Students brought in rectangular prisms from home, such as building blocks, kleenex boxes, a raisin box, etc. Next week, we will be learning all about cones and the students are encouraged to bring one from home on Monday.
In math, we have started learning about probability. The students learned the following math vocabulary words: likely, not likely, certain, impossible, and probably. We flipped quarters to demonstrate accuracy. We discussed that each flip would either be "heads" or "tails" and that the results should end up close to even. That did, indeed, prove to be the case! We will use a variety of additional activities to further demonstrate the concept of probability in the days ahead.
Recess is a time of friendship and play. Enjoy the following pictures and VIDEO!!!!!
Have a great weekend!

Dear Parents,
Melissa Davis got tremendous footage of our caterpillars changing into chrysalids! She used a time lapse app which changed about an hour and a half of video into a 20 second video! It is AMAZING to see but it happens fast, so watch very carefully......and enjoy!
