"No matter how long the winter,
spring is sure to follow."
~Proverb
What is a proverb?
A proverb is a short, pithy (look up the word) statement that teaches a life lesson.
Currently, what assignment in class requires a proverb?
The Asian Studies & Pacific Rim Brochure requires a proverb about the nation and its people on the first page under the image.
What are our biblical proverbs?
"The primary purpose of the book [of proverbs] is to teach wisdom, not only to the young and inexperienced but also to the advanced. Wisdom in the ancient Near East was not theoretical [knowing and understanding the idea] knowledge but practical [living or practicing the idea] expertise.
Jewelers who cut precious stones were wise; kings who made their dominion peaceful and prosperous were wise. One could be wise in daily life, too, in knowing how to live successfully (having a prosperous household and living a long and healthy life) and without trouble in God’s universe. Ultimately wisdom, or “sound guidance”, aims at the formation of character."

The Book of Proverbs Introduction
NEW AMERICAN BIBLE Book of Proverbs Introduction
"The beginning of wisdom is: get wisdom;
whatever else you get, get understanding."
~Proverbs, Chapter 2
Well Scholars, I'm not sure if we get proverbs totally; however, that we are trying to grow in wisdom is sure to please the Lord! Wisdom brings peace and understanding regardless of our circumstances. Speaking of wisdom and promoting understanding, thank you to the four out of thirty (13%) scholars who submitted their "My Favorite Candy" selection for our Communal Candy Bags due yesterday, May 1st. Thank you for your contributions.
Obviously, these four candy conscientious students read, highlighted, and annotated their "Charlie & The Chocolate Factory" Study guide directions, pages 1-4 assigned last week. As Mr. Wonka would say:
"Oh, I do congratulate you! I really do! I'm absolutely delighted! It couldn't be better [Even that Mr. Wonka uses the third person singualr pronoun; bother, and a contraction too! Oh well...] How wonderful this [Another pronoun Mr. W.! Please be specific...what is so wonderful?] is! I had a hunch, you know--right from the beginning that it was going to be you! Well done Charlie...well done!" [LITERATURE p. 763]
For the majority of you who are still gathering your candy bag donation, please review the paper study guide received last week and logged in your Class Journal. Or feel free to download the uploaded document below.

“THE CANDY MAN”
“Who can take a sunrise, sprinkle it with dew
Cover it with choc'late and a miracle or two
The Candy Man, oh the Candy Man can
The Candy Man can 'cause he mixes it with love and makes the world taste good
Who can take a rainbow, wrap it in a sigh
Soak it in the sun and make a groovy lemon pie
The Candy Man, the Candy Man can
The Candy Man can 'cause he mixes it with love and makes the world taste good
The Candy Man makes
Everything he bakes satisfying and delicious
Now you talk about your childhood wishes,
You can even eat the dishes
Oh, who can take tomorrow, dip it in a dream
Separate the sorrow and collect up all the cream
The Candy Man, oh the Candy Man can
The Candy Man can 'cause he mixes it with love and makes the world taste good
The Candy Man makes everything he bakes
Satisfying and delicious
Talk about your childhood wishes,
You can even eat the dishes
Yeah, yeah, yeah...
Who can take tomorrow, dip it in a dream
Separate the sorrow and collect up all the cream
The Candy Man, the Candy Man can
The Candy Man can 'cause he mixes it with love and makes the world taste good
Yes, the Candy Man can 'cause he mixes it with love and makes the world taste good
A-Candy Man, a-Candy Man, a-Candy Man
Candy Man, a-Candy Man, a-Candy Man
Candy Man, a-Candy Man, a-Candy Man...
