7th Grade Math Quiz

The 7th grade will take a Geometry quiz on Wednesday, February 15.  This quiz will cover Chapter 10, lessons 1-5.  Students will be able to use their ring of note cards for this quiz.  We have now completed our studies of classifying polygons, solving for the missing angle and side lengths, calculating the area of circles, parallelograms and trapezoids, and finding the surface area of prisms and cylinders.  We will conclude our Geometry unit with the surface area of pyramids and cones, and the volume of pyramids and prisms. 

8th Grade Math Quiz

The 8th graders will be taking a math quiz on Friday, January 27.  This quiz will cover Chapter 6, lessons 1-5.  We are currently working on solving absolute value equations and inequalities, solving and graphing compound inequalities, and graphing inequalities on a coordinate grid.  The quiz will cover all of these concepts.  Students took a practice quiz over the first three lessons earlier in the week.

7th Grade Math

The 7th grade is working on a geometry unit.  They have started making notecards for each shape that we discuss and each formula that we learn for solving area, volume, and surface area.  There are a lot!  Therefore, it's very important that they keep up with their notecards.   They will be using these notecards on quizzes/tests.  Each student has been given a metal ring to help them keep their notecards organized and from getting lost.

8th Grade Picture Day

8th grade picture day is Wednesday, February 8 in the morning.  Students should come to school dressed for picture day.  Girls are to wear dresses or skirts and a nice top.  Please keep it at an appropriate length.  Boys are to wear a shirt, tie, sport coat, and nice pants.  Students may bring their school uniform to change into after their picture if they'd like. 

7th Grade Math Test

The 7th graders are taking their Chapter 3 math test tomorrow.  We have already gone over in class the Chapter Review.  Students are required to do the Chapter Test in their textbook on page 158 tonight.  Students should also be studying their class notes/examples found in their math spiral, by practicing actual class problems again on a separate sheet of paper and seeing if it matches up with the answers from their notes.  We have now completed solving and graphing multi-step equations and inequalities.  Nice Work!

8th Graders - Loyola Academy Entrance Exam

Entrance Exam:  Saturday, January 14, 2012 8:00 AM - 12:30  

The Loyola Academy Entrance Exam is for 8th grade students who are interested in applying to Loyola Academy. Students should arrive by 8:00am and bring two #2 pencils and a $25 exam fee(cash or check payable to Loyola Academy). There is no pre-registration for the exam. Students will be finished around 12:30pm. Students will receive an Application for Admission and a Financial Aid application on exam day. Parents are invited to attend a presentation on Loyola's Academic Programs at 8:30am in the East Gym. Contact: Admissions Office, 847/920-2481 with further questions.

Regina Dominican High School Entrance Exam

The Entrance Exam for incoming freshman is January 14, 2012 at 8am. Please arrive by 7:45.  The test begins promptly at 8:00am. 

Please bring $25 cash or check made out to Regina Dominican High School, a calculator and two number 2 pencils.  Regina uses the Terra Nova Test at the 9th grade level.  Applicants are tested in the following subjects: reading, language arts and mathematics (a calculator may be used in certain areas of the exam).

6th Grade Math Test

The 6th graders will be taking their Chapter 6 math test on Wednesday, January 11.  They are working on a practice test tonight which we will go over together in class.  They are required to complete 30 Classzone problems from Chapter 6 tomorrow night.  The test will not cover lesson 6.  They are expected to study their notes/examples from class.  We have now completed integers and will be moving onto Geometry.

8th graders - New Trier Info

Important reminder!  If your child is thinking of attending New Trier in the Fall, their portfolios are being picked up from SFX tomorrow and delivered to New Trier.  You were mailed in early December a parent profile of your child that you were to have filled out.  You could have mailed these directly to New Trier or handed them in to me.
