7th Grade Math Test

The 7th graders are taking their Chapter 3 math test tomorrow.  We have already gone over in class the Chapter Review.  Students are required to do the Chapter Test in their textbook on page 158 tonight.  Students should also be studying their class notes/examples found in their math spiral, by practicing actual class problems again on a separate sheet of paper and seeing if it matches up with the answers from their notes.  We have now completed solving and graphing multi-step equations and inequalities.  Nice Work!

8th Graders - Loyola Academy Entrance Exam

Entrance Exam:  Saturday, January 14, 2012 8:00 AM - 12:30  

The Loyola Academy Entrance Exam is for 8th grade students who are interested in applying to Loyola Academy. Students should arrive by 8:00am and bring two #2 pencils and a $25 exam fee(cash or check payable to Loyola Academy). There is no pre-registration for the exam. Students will be finished around 12:30pm. Students will receive an Application for Admission and a Financial Aid application on exam day. Parents are invited to attend a presentation on Loyola's Academic Programs at 8:30am in the East Gym. Contact: Admissions Office, 847/920-2481 with further questions.

Regina Dominican High School Entrance Exam

The Entrance Exam for incoming freshman is January 14, 2012 at 8am. Please arrive by 7:45.  The test begins promptly at 8:00am. 

Please bring $25 cash or check made out to Regina Dominican High School, a calculator and two number 2 pencils.  Regina uses the Terra Nova Test at the 9th grade level.  Applicants are tested in the following subjects: reading, language arts and mathematics (a calculator may be used in certain areas of the exam).

6th Grade Math Test

The 6th graders will be taking their Chapter 6 math test on Wednesday, January 11.  They are working on a practice test tonight which we will go over together in class.  They are required to complete 30 Classzone problems from Chapter 6 tomorrow night.  The test will not cover lesson 6.  They are expected to study their notes/examples from class.  We have now completed integers and will be moving onto Geometry.

8th graders - New Trier Info

Important reminder!  If your child is thinking of attending New Trier in the Fall, their portfolios are being picked up from SFX tomorrow and delivered to New Trier.  You were mailed in early December a parent profile of your child that you were to have filled out.  You could have mailed these directly to New Trier or handed them in to me. 

8 McDonough Mass

Join 8-McDonough's homeroom on Tuesday, December 20th as they lead us in prayer.  The 8th graders only have a few more masses to lead while at SFX.  Please come to celebrate this special joyous time of year.

8th Grade Math Test

The 8th graders will be taking their Chapter 5 math test on Friday, December 16.  They will be expected to write the equation of a line in slope-intercept, point-slope, and standard form.  After making a scatter plot, they will be asked to create a "best fitting" line and then give the equation of the line.  Finally, they will use linear models to make predictions after using linear interpolation or linear extrapolation.  A practice test is found in their textbook on page 327.  A standardized practice test is found on page 328.  Students must study all notes/examples from Chapter 5.  Homework correction/reflection sheets are due on Friday as well.

6th Grade Math

The 6th grade has just finished adding and subtracting positive and negative integers.  We will conclude our integer unit with lessons on multiplying and dividing integers next week.  Please encourage your child to continue to practice this type of problem by making up problems for them to solve (such as -12 + -8).  They can even make up a problem for you.  Any opportunity to discuss the use of negative numbers in the real world is also highly encouraged.

7th Grade Math

The 7th graders have a math quiz on Monday, December 5.  The quiz will cover Chapter 3, lessons 1 & 2.  Students will be expected to solve multi-step variable equations by showing their work.  These equations will involve the use of the distributive property and working with decimals.  Every step will have to be shown, including a check step, in order to receive full credit.  Solving for the variable on geometric figures will also be included on the quiz.  The 7th grade has worked really hard on this chapter so far.  Keep up the good work.
