Thanks to all who have signed up already to volunteer for Family Promise! We have just a few weeks left before our guests arrive, so if you can and haven't already signed up, please do! There are 6 dinner slots open and 9 overnight slots. You can sign up at http://www2.mysignup.com/cgi-bin/view.cgi?datafile=sfxfamilypromise2012
Staying overnight with the guests is more comfortable than you may imagine! It means you arrive as everyone is quieting down. Families go to their rooms for the evening, and you and a friend/spouse/older child sleep on comfortable cots in the quiet Xavier Room with your own linens. No emergency has ever come up in the evening, but we stay with them just in case. If something happens, you call one of the coordinators. At 6:15am or so, you rise and put out some simple breakfast foods, make coffee, and put food out for the guests to make their lunches. One of the coordinators will arrive by 7am, and you can leave. Please consider helping in this way!
Family Promise was featured in the Wilmette Beacon this week. SFX parishioner Therese Heyek was interviewed about St. Francis's involvement. You can find the article at http://www.wilmettebeacon.com/Articles-Life-and-Arts-c-2012-05-21-242747.114133-Faith-organizations-help-homeless-families-rejuvenate.html. Thanks for your support of this worthwhile program!
