This is a great time of year for educators at SFX. The school is clean and the pencils are sharpened! We are ready and eager for our students to return. I suspect that the even the children themselves are anxious to come back. And that is a good thing!
Over the summer we have made many changes that you will be hearing about over the next few days and weeks. I would like to highlight two now: our new science lab and our refurbished teachers' lounge.
When St. Francis School celebrated its 100th anniversary last year, the decision was made to create the Centennial Plaza, a beautiful, safe space for our students to enter and exit the building. As part of these efforts, commemorative pavers were sold to raise money for school improvements such as the science lab. Over the summer the new lab was installed and it is amazing! Our students will benefit from the hands-on capabilities afforded by the new space and equipment. Mr. Van can hardly wait for school to begin!!!
The teachers' lounge remodeling was made possible by a generous gift from a school family. I had mentioned that we needed to move some things around in the lounge and they graciously offered to support the project. Thanks to this gift, the closet wall in the lounge was taken down, a new floor installed, and the cabinets replaced. Now the teachers can use the room for work, crafts, and, of course, lunch. We held our first meeting of the year there today and the teachers were floored. It is a big deal!
These two projects are emblematic of the level of support the school has received from the community for many years now. Be assured that everyone who works here is very appreciative and humbled by the generosity of the SFX families. We are devoted to our students and will continue to help guide them to a better understanding of their world and themselves. This will be a great year!
