When will classes be offered at SFX?
There will be three 10 week sessions throughout the school year (fall, winter, and spring). Classes will be offered on Wednesdays after school. Beginners practice from 3:00-3:30, Advanced Beginners from 3:30-4:15, Intermediate from 4:15-5:00, Hard Shoes from 5:00-5:30, and Advanced from 5:30-6:30.
When can my son/daughter start dancing?
Saint Francis Xavier students in grades K-8 can join the SFX Irish Dance Club.
What should my son/daughter wear to practices?
All dancers should have either black ballet shoes or Irish dance soft shoes (can be purchased online at www.irishshoes.com or at many Irish stores). Dancers should also wear shorts and a comfortable t-shirt. Please send your child with a water bottle to every practice.
What should my son/daughter wear to shows?
SFX Irish Dancers may either rent a skirt/blouse costume for performances from mulvy2@aol.com OR purchase an SFX Irish Dance Club dress. Please email Miss Howard at kerryhoward@sfx-school.org if you are interested. Also, poodle socks www.irishshoes.com are preferred, otherwise short white socks should be worn.
When will my son/daughter advance to the next level?
Dancers will move to Advanced Beginner after taking 2 Beginner sessions
Dancers will move to Intermediate after taking 4 sessions of Advanced Beginner. They must also know at least 5 steps of the jig, 3 steps of the Reel and hop 1-2-3s.
Dancers will move to Advanced Dancer when invited by the Foy School Teaching Staff. In order to provide a fair and consistent program that meets dancers at their level, please be advised that not all dancers will advance to the Advanced Dancer class.
