TURNING 3S

This week we continued with our unit on community helpers. We continued to learn about our helpers, especially ones we see each day such as the mailman, policeman, fireman, teacher, etc.  We also talked about what they would like to be when they grow up and how they would imagine themselves going that job.  The responses were quite amusing.

On Monday, we will celebrate Valentine's Day.  The rest of the week we will begin our exploration of music and art.

THREE YEAR OLD

We were very busy making valentines for our class room.  On Wednesday we made some to send to the sisters at Sacred Heart Convent.  The students worked very hard and they all turned out beautifully.

We continue to have Spanish every week.  They have learned their numbers, colors, letters and many songs and games in spanish.  They even know the days of the week in spanish.

We also started playing a new game in school.  It is called "I Love Letters".  This game reinforces capital letter recognition, attention to detail and following multi-step directions.

Our Valentine's Day party will be held on Tuesday.  We have a fun filled day planned.

Next we will begin learning about Lent and Easter.  We will also begin our unit on music and art appreciation.

REMINDERS:

There is still time to sign up for our Crusader Camp.  There are many fun and exciting activites planned for this summer.  You can get information for all age groups on our website.  If you have any questions please contact the school office.

TURNING 3S

This week we started our unit on Community Helpers.  We explored, talked and read about the many and varied occupations that keep our community running smoothly.  Each had their own favorite.  Ask your child what they want to be when they grow up.  We will continue next week with post office workers which will bring us to Valentine's Day the next week.

The party for the Turning 3s will be held in our classroom on February 14th.  We are asking that each student bring a valentine to pass out.  Please do not address them so each child can pass out their own cards.  Also please no candy or food treats.

THREE YEAR OLDS

Our 3s had a busy week participating in many of the Catholic Schools Week festivities.  On Monday we joined the whole school in the gym to see the Teachers vs 8th graders volleyball game.  The teachers won the game but the 8th graders gave a good fight.  On Wednesday we again joined the the school to watch The Crusaders Tonight Talent Show.  Our own Miss Katie showed off her dancing skills.  She was great!

Next week we will start making preparations for Valentine's Day.  Our classroom party will be Monday, February 13th.  Each student is asked to bring a valentine for his/her friends.  Please do not address them so they can pass out their own cards.  Also no candy or food.  There are 34 students in the class.  In religion will be begin our unit on "I Can Care" and "I Can Clean".

Some kids are still coming to school without hats, gloves and boots.  We do go outside everyday and some of the kids are getting cold.  We also need an extra pair of dry shoes/slippers for each child.  The students can not wear wet boots or go shoeless in the classroom.

Now that the weather has changed we are asking  that you send an extra pair of long pants for your child to keep at school.  Most of you sent a change of clothes in the beginning of the year and many of you sent shorts.  We sometimes have spills and need to change your child and unfortunately short weather is gone for awhile.

Please try to remember when it is your week to bring snack.  If you need an additional schedule please let us know.

REMINDERS:

Monday, January 16 -- no school

Friday, February 17--no school

Monday, February 20--no school

We try to go outside everyday.  Please make sure your child has the appropriate clothing to keep them warm and dry.

We joyfully welcomed back all our students on Wednesday.  From all the different conversations going on between the students, we gather everyone had a wonderful and funfilled Christmas vacation.

We are almost at the half way point of the school year.  We are still working on independence and resposibility.  Mrs. Cobia eagerly waits to walk our students in each day!  Each one comes in to the classroom so proud of what they can do for themselves. They have all come a long way since August.

WORKING ON INDEPENDENCE

Believe it or not, we've reached the midpoint of Quarter 2!  As you have observed, your child has developed a strong sense of routine within our classroom and he or she is responsible for the morning routine of checking in, hanging up his or her belongings and washing hands before starting free play.  The skills of independently completing these exercises allow your child to become accountable for his or her actions and build a sense of responsibility.

While we still welcome parents to visit our classroom on an occasional basis, we strongly encourage you to use this mid quarter mark as a time  to encourage your child to build independence as they enter the classroom alone.  Mrs. Cobia will continue to greet the children every morning. If you have any specific questions or concerns about this, please feel free to email us.

Christmas in our Preschool!!!

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in our preschool classroom. The 3s and Turning 3s have been as busy as elves, creating jolly Santas, festive wreaths, dazzling ornaments and glittery colorful snowflakes.

It’s beginning to sound a lot like Christmas as well. The preschoolers have been practicing carols, old and new. It is amazing to see them learn these new songs so quickly.

The 3-year-old preschool performed beautifully at Mass on November 30th. We were extremely proud of how well they sang and behaved. Their Seventh Grade Buddies did a great job assisting them. We will be posting the video on the blog very soon.

The 3s are now preparing to sing at the Early Childhood Christmas Program.  The 3s will join the Jr. Kindergarten and First Grade to sing before, during and after the Kindergarten’s Nativity Play. It promises to be a very moving and entertaining event. Please join us on December 16th at 10:00 in the gym.

Not to be out “sung”, the Turning 3s have been learning new songs as well. They truly love to sing and dance, and we love to watch them.  Dr. Jim came Tuesday to play his “monkey” guitar and sing with the preschoolers. He has a real gift with the children.

The children have been learning about Baby Jesus and why we celebrate Christmas. We discussed gifts and all the parties and festivities that take place at Christmas.

We also discussed our “Well for Haiti” program, where our preschoolers were given a picture ornament of a child from Haiti. We explained that these children do not have clean  water to drink. The preschoolers were asked to bring in some spare change in the baggie. We then learned that if every student at SFX donated $12.50, a well could be built thereby fulfilling the children of Haiti’s Christmas wish. We will keep you informed on the status of the well.

Please send hats and mittens on or with your child every day. We do go out and want the children to be warm and cozy. Have you sent in your extra pair of shoes or slippers yet?
